Beheshte Barin, Persian Devine

I have been wanting to try this place for a while now but didn't get the chance to. I was recommended this place by a Persian laundry owner when I first moved into the area. Located in North London, this Persian restaurant is surely a dark horse in our area! If you are a meat and carb lover, be sure to check this out!

The Restaurant

The restaurant has a very authentic essence and I personally think the interior is a piece of artwork itself. The walls are decorated with handcrafted 3D painting, as well as different vintage style ornaments and jewellery on the shelves. The only thing I'd comment on is that the name of the restaurant was very difficult to find. This is because the sign located outside of the shop was written in Persian, and its English name was of a very small print.

The Food

When ordering drinks from a Persian restaurant, I often go for an authentic Persian Chai Tea. I like the sweet essence within it and mentally it also makes me think that a hot cup of tea will help me wash away the oil in the meat and rice that I am about to eat.
This restaurant offers tea on a mini hot stove. You can also order tea of different sizes- Pot for one, for two etc. This attentive service helps you budget on how much you would like to spend on drinks, as they can often be quite expensive.
Notice the really cute teapot too!

I am no fan of dry meat. I like my meat to be moist and juicy, preferably with a bit of sauce.
The restaurant offers a variety of kebabs- ranging from chicken (with option of thigh or breast), lamb fillet/ mince lamb and fish. They also have a huge choice of starters, both warm and cold- impressive :)

For starter, I ordered the Barley soup, which consists of Barley, potato, onion, carrots, parsley, chicken sauce cooked with special Iranian spices.
Barley Soup
The soup had a really thick texture to it because of the way the potatoes were cooked. The soup contained a lot of barley, a special cereal grain. I am not normally a fan of wheat or grain, nevertheless I enjoyed the soup.
Flavour isn't strong. However, the emphsisis was on the Persian herb that was used. Flavour is very unique with loads of pepper sprinkles and a squeeze of lemon. If you don't like sour things, I wouldn't recommend this to you.
I recommend this to be shared between 2-3 people, as the portion is quite big for a starter. It also contain a lot of carbs which will fill you up, leaving you with no space for the main- which is also MASSIVE!

For the main, I ordered the most popular Chello Kebab Koubideh

(Two skewers of minced baby lamb served with grilled tomato)
Picture speaks louder than words! Lamb skewers were very juicy and moist, and packed with lots of flavour. I'd say it was a little salty, but when mixed with the saffron rice it is a good combination.
Alternatively, if you don't like rice, you could also replace it with freshly made bread! The restuanrat has a delegated staff working on this old style looking oven to make fresh nann bread. This is a common feature I tend to find in all Persian restaurant.

Every main course comes with salad,a red chilli sauce + mint sauce as a salad dressing. Unfortunately, the mint sauce (which is my favourite!) ran out. But the staff was very attentive he tried to make us his own sauce with added lemon juice.
