Background: Tredwell's is a new invention from the two-starred Michelin master chef, Marcus Wareing. It focuses on providing modern British cuisine. |
The food:
Discovered some great flavours and good presentation. For its price, I was fairly impressed with the overall quality. It is not perfect though, there were faults, but I think this will improve as the restaurant progresses.
(left) DOWN THE APPLES & PEARS £8 Belvedere vodka, apple, pear, elderflower, thyme (right) ELDERFLOWER & CELERY FIZZ £5 |
Tredwell's has a wide selection of wine, cocktails, as well as non-alcoholic treats. There were thoughts added into every drink. The combination of flavours were spot on, and the vodka did not out taste the rest of the juices (though this might be the down side for any alcoholics out there)
The celery in my non-alcoholic drink on the right has a good balance of elderflower and celery.
Courgettes were fresh and crunchy, the batter was thinly coated, and this fritter was packed with flavour. Combined with the pine nut butter- the perfect match.
Courgette fritters, pine nut butter £5 |
The polenta was very soft and tasted like seasoned egg white. Together with the prawns and the sauce gives a delicate yet flavoursome taste. Very impressed with the quality and also the portion size.
Prawns, white polenta, roast garlic, chicken broth £8.5 |
This mousse is a true upgrade of the Pate that you eat from most restaurants. The spread was super smooth you won't be able to taste any bits of liver. Served with fresh toasts. (note: bread provided might not be enough)
Marcus brings a hint of Indian twist to Tredwell's. This lamb curry is light and non-greasy. The meat has surely been braised for a long time to ensure all the juice and flavour is locked inside this soft and moist meat.
Chicken liver mousse, bacon jam, toast £6.5 |
Braised lamb belly, aubergine & tomato curry £6 |
As you all should be aware by now, I AM A MASSIVE LAMB FAN! This lamb chop was such a bargain. Three massive slices of thick slice, juicy lamb chops, with only salt and pepper seasoning. This is to make sure all the natural juice of the meat is kept. Underneath the meat there is a big bunch of fresh beans. Yum yum yum!
First impression of this dish: Maybe the presentation of this stew could be improved. Once scooping out what's hidden underneath the bed of cheese and crumbles, I began drooling. The smell was divine. The balance of each ingredient was spot on. the courgettes balances out the strong flavours of cheese. Very impressive dish!
THUMBS DOWN- it was a miss. I know it says salted caramel... but I could not taste any caramel? Sea salt and ice cream were the only two things I could taste.... did not enjoy this.
I never knew coconut and pineapple go so well together. The light mousse gives the fresh pineapples a good kick. The very thoughtful chef placed the pineapples at the bottom, to keep the solid texture of the cream and prevents the pineapple juice to dilute it.
Lamb chops, minted bean chutney £12 |
Smoked Haddock, crab and courgette gratin £14 |
Sweet potato chips, BBQ mayo (V) £4 |
Housemade salted caramel soft serve £5 |
Coconut mousse, pineapple, mint, lime £5 |

I went to tredwells the other day based on your review, I thought their duck confit was really good! btw I love your food reviews on your website, can you please do a szechuan one, as I feel its one of underapprciated cuisines in London and it lack reviews
Thank you! and I am glad you enjoyed Tredwell's (hopefully you did not order the salted caramel ice cream lol)
Szechuan is definitely on my list and I am trying out a few at the moment to pick the best! stay tune!
Thanks (sorry I didn't catch your name?) my friend did order the salted caramel and I thought it was passable! But then again I am quite laissez-faire towards desserts so I don't hold them to a high standard. What was wrong in your opinion
Muji :)
I couldn't taste any caramel in my ice cream, just Salt ! I'm not a massive dessert fan so it has to be really nice to impress me.
Thanks for the comment !
