TOMBO - BEST GREEN TEA DESSERTS

Craving authentic Japanese food MINUS THE PRICE TAG? No problem! I have found you a new favourite which YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS. Located just 2 minutes away from South Kensington underground station, Tombo is a family style Japanese teahouse/ cafe that serves delicious, healthy Japanese dishes annnnnd......
THE BEST GREEN TEA DESSERTS. Are you dribbling already? Scroll down!

Tombo sells tea leaves as well at a very reasonable price should you want to have a hot cup of pure green tea in this cold and depressing weather! Prices starts from £5 (I believe)
Tombo Speciality Drinks (hot/cold)
(Left) Hoji Cha Latte Regular £4.20 (or small £3.60)
(Right) Matcha green tea Latte Regular £4.20 (or small £3.60)

Editor Recommends: As Tombo specialises in its tea, you would definitely want to order one of their specials when you visit. All the teas are freshly brewed (no powder rubbish) and can be served hot or cold. The Hoji cha is slightly sweeter but blends very well with milk. The matcha latte was surprisingly not sweet, so would be perfect for those without a sweet tooth.
Sashimi of the day (Chef's choice) £6.55
Generous amount and thick slices of fresh salmon and tuna that melts in your mouth. Awesome price for the quality and quantity! Great appetiser to start you off!

Temari Set RRP £ 6.85
Salmon (3pcs), Prawn (3pcs), Edamame (salted boiled beans)
Editor Loves: Sushi lovers be warned- This is a REAL surprise.
Aside from its cute little ball shape (Which already makes you want to order it soon as you see it in the menu), there is secret ingredient added to the rice (my guess is plum). This added extra refreshing sourness to the rice, making this dish standout amongst any ordinary sushi that you may have had else where. Very well done!
Unagi Grilled Eel Don Rice Bowl RRP £ 12.55
I am surprised how cheap this dish is. Considering other Japanese restaurants, a good quality bowl of eel with rice would cost around £15. This dish is truly satisfying for those who have a big stomach. The eel is marinated in teriyaki sauce and grilled to perfection. The vegetables on the side is delicious yet healthy!

NOW ONTO THE PART WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR.....
Green Tea Tiramisu RRP £3.20
Editor O.M.G Loves: GOOD HEAVENS! This dessert is divine! (Screams) A light, creamy green tea mousse topped on a thin layer of chocolate cake. Coming from someone that is not a big fan of desserts, oh my goodness. "Delicious" is not a strong enough adjective to describe how yummy this is. Must try!

Matcha Tart RRP£4.10
Served with white chocolate scrapings

Mixed sugar with green tea powder and mashed as the filling for this green tea tart, the dessert is rich and packed with flavours. Combined with white chocolate scrapings, it is the perfect dessert for those with a sweet tooth.

Special of the day: Matcha Panna Cotta RRP£4.60
This to me didn't taste so much like a panna cotta. From my experience it should have the texture of a wobbling pudding, but this one did not. Instead it tasted like a green tea mousse cake with a green tea jelly topping. It might take some time to get used to, but the more you eat the better it tastes!

Matcha Sundae RRP£5.70
Matcha ice cream, matcha gateau, azuki paste and oats
This is another very popular desserts created by Tombo. Although very popular in Japan, Tombo was the first Japanese restaurant in London to have something like this. Shoutout to all ice cream fans: a must have!

Tombo Japanese Green Tea RRP£3.40 per person
Choice of 4 tea leaves

LASTLY...
Fancy something different?
Tombo offers a green tea afternoon tea package for those who likes to explore new things! Serve between 3-5pm.

£12.90 per person with tea
£19.90 per person with Sparkling Sake (250ml bottle)

Overall Rating:

Service:
(We arrived just before 7:00pm and there was no need to wait. There were enough staff to accomodate busy periods and service was quick and efficient.)

Food:
(Very delicious Japanese food with originality. Everything tasted fresh and shows much effort. My favourite was definitely the Temari sushi set and the Green tea Tiramisu (which I ordered another to take home) I am already craving it!)

Hygiene:

Value:
(Very good price with impressive quality and generous portions. I wouldn't be surprise if they raise the ££ soon as they are doing very well. So I advise to go there before it gets expensive!)
